Grammy-winning singer Rihanna will reportedly testify against Chris Brown next month in their highly publicized domestic dispute case.
Brown's lawyer appeared in a California courtroom today (May 28).
The leak of a photo showing Rihanna's bloodied face is not relevant to the assault arrest of her former boyfriend, Chris Brown, a judge said. Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg described the leak of what appears to be a police evidence photo to the gossip site TMZ.com as "not a good thing" and possibly a crime, but she brushed aside suggestions by Brown's attorney that it impacted evidence to be presented against the R&B singer at a June 22 preliminary hearing. Brown did not attend the hearing. The 19 year-old has pleaded not guilty to assault and criminal threats charges stemming from a Feb. 8 incident in which Rihanna, 21, claimed he beat, punched and bit her as she rode in his rented Lamborghini. A lawyer for Rihanna confirmed reports of the singer likely appearing in court next month.
Following a hearing in Los Angeles Thursday, Rihanna's lawyer, Donald Etra, said prosecutors intend to subpoena the singer to appear at a June 22 hearing, so the court can determine if there's enough evidence to proceed with a trial. "The DA has advised me that she will be subpoenaed [to testify]," Etra said. "She absolutely will comply." He added that Rihanna, 21, would be subject to cross-examination by Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos. (People)
Brown recently broke his silence on the dispute via a video to his fans this week.
"I don't do all this talking on the thing, it's just some new stuff I'm doing," Brown said. "I just wanna say 'What up' 'cause I ain't been out there in a minute, but new album gonna be coming soon, we working on it right now. It's called Graffiti, it's got everything on it. Y'all be ready for that. I'm about to drop a single this summer for y'all, so you know, we ain't going no where. Everybody's that's haters, they just been hating. All my real fans, I love y'all. I ain't a monster." (Justin TV)
Aside from his personal life, the singer has also been sued by a photographer.
Chris Brown is being sued by a photographer who claims the singer was involved in a violent incident on a Los Angeles basketball court back in March. The photog claims Chris' bodyguards yelled at him -- so he tried to leave the gym ... but an L.A. Fitness employee tried to block his escape. Now the man is suing Chris and LA Fitness for assault and battery, false imprisonment, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence and premises liability. (TMZ)
Brown will head back to court Tuesday, June 22.
