Former boxing champion Mike Tyson's four year-old daughter, Exodus, was pronounced dead today (May 26) after a tragic accident that occurred at the family's Phoenix home.

The initial incident reportedly took place on Memorial Day.

The 4 year-old daughter of boxer Mike Tyson has died from her treadmill accident. Exodus Tyson had been on life support since getting a loop from a treadmill cord around her neck. Police say it acted like a noose, and that it appears to have been a "tragic accident." (KXMC News)

The Tyson family has confirmed the unexpected loss via a statement.

"There are no words to describe the tragic loss of our beloved Exodus," the family said in a statement. "We ask you now to please respect our need at this very difficult time for privacy to grieve and try to help each other heal." (Fox News)

Exodus was reportedly playing on the household's treadmill.

The ex-champ was at the hospital bedside of Exodus Tyson, who had been clinging to life after she accidentally got tangled up in a cord on the exercise machine Monday. She was pronounced dead at 11:45 a.m. local time, Phoenix police Sgt. Andy Hill said. Exodus Tyson's older brother was watching TV and their mom was cleaning their central Phoenix home when Exodus apparently started playing with the machine alone. A cord looped around the girl's neck and somehow choked her. She was unconscious when her brother found her and her mother dialed 911. (New York Daily News)

Despite emergency efforts to save the child's life, Exodus passed away Tuesday morning.

911 was called, and police and firefighters did CPR on the little girl. She was rushed to nearby St. Joe's Hospital after she was found. Tyson was in Las Vegas but flew home to Phoenix immediately after being told about the accident. This is incredibly tragic and sad and an important lesson for all with young children and exercise machines or home gyms. (Los Angeles Times)
