The Lox's Jadakiss recently spoke on his opinions of past iconic rap groups and which emcees in today's hip-hop game have caught his attention.
Thinking outside of the Big Apple, Jada named his top three hip-hop acts from the past 20 years.
"I have to start with Run-D.M.C. because they inspired me to do hip hop," Kiss revealed in an interview. "'Sucker M.C.'s' instantly grabbed my ears. Next, it's EPMD because they are so underrated. I got all of their albums, even the solo joints. The in-and-out rhymes, the wordplay, the way P[arish] sounded different from Erick Sermon, but they still sounded like a team. They brought so much flavor and I just love that about them. And then there's N.W.A. It was all about their I-don't-give-a-f*ck attitude. They sold all those records without having a radio song similar to what I do, but even more massive...I'm listening to everybody. Definitely all the new cats like Red Cafe, Maino, Drake, Kid Cudi and Asher Roth...It's not necessarily about me liking all of the newer cats because I have to hear a nice body of work before I say I like an artist. But for them to actually capture my ear, it's because they're poppin'. If the kids love them you have to give it a listen." (Vibe)
Outside of L-o-x, Kiss is known for his team efforts with Ruff Ryders, which he plans to re-link with through a collaboration with DMX and Swizz Beatz for the "Who's Real" remix.
"It's not a motherf*cking game man, this is what we do," X said in a recent interview. "It's what we built for, it's how we get down. Real talk. That new Kiss and Swizz joint, you know what I'm saying? 'She's phony, she's fake, she's fake, that's the type of people I hate.' Aigght? I'm on the remix, check that sh*t out son, real talk." Kiss is reportedly working on an upcoming album.
"I'm definitely going back in," Kiss explained about preparing his next LP. "The D-Block album is wrapped up, I'ma make sure we finish up this Lox album, I'm coming right back though. I think ten months, after X did that time they switched the rule that you gotta wait. I think you gotta wait ten months [before your next album.] So you know, nine or ten months but I'm coming right. Think I'm gonna call it Top 5 Dead Or Alive and I'm only gonna work with [DJ Premier], Alchemist, Swizz [Beatz], Dame Grease, nah mean?" (MTV)
He also recently spoke on the producers he has targeted for Lox's new album set to drop later this year.
"Hard beats, hard lyrics," Kiss said about the upcoming album. "Light featurings and you know what it is. We hold each other's weight. [We're using] whoever we work the best with. [DJ Premier], Dame Grease, Alchemist, Swizz [Beatz], sh*t like that. Pete Rock, Timbaland, Dre, hopefully. Pharrell, definitely...I think [Ruff Ryders Volume 5] is in the works right now. (57th Ave)
