News: Eminem Takes The Unemployed To Hollywood, "Everyone Forgets People That Lost Their Jobs"
Tuesday, May 12, 2009 11:00AM
Grammy-winning rapper Eminem has reportedly decided to take 200 laid-off Detroit autoworkers to an all-expenses paid trip to the "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" show this week.
Both Em and Jimmy Kimmel joined forces to help his hometown's community.
When Eminem appears on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" for a rare interview and performance Friday, he'll have about 200 laid-off autoworkers from the Detroit area in tow. Eminem and Kimmel are flying the unemployed workers to Los Angeles for the show's taping. It was unclear how the unemployed autoworkers were being selected for the performance, but according to the publicist, they are UAW members. After the Hollywood visit, they will be invited -- with a guest -- to a secret show in metro Detroit the following week. (Detroit Free Press)
The rapper said his decision was based on Detroit's contribution to the auto industry.
"In all the media coverage Detroit is getting, everyone forgets about the people that have lost their jobs without getting big cash payouts after dedicating themselves to the auto industry," Em said in a statement. "Jimmy Kimmel and I got to talking, and we wanted to remind everyone that there are real people affected by what's going on in Detroit, and try to show some of them a good time while we're at it." Aside from his Friday appearance, Em is scheduled to return two more times this month.
Eminem will make three appearances on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" this May. The notoriously press-shy rapper will return to the late-night show three times in May. Once on Friday, May 15, a second time on his album release day, Tuesday, May 19 and again on Friday, May 22. (Rap-Up)
He is also billed to perform at the MTV Movie Awards 2009.
Eminem has been tapped to perform "We Made You" at the 2009 "MTV Movie Awards," airing live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California, on Sunday, May 31, at 9 p.m. ET. Andy Samberg will host. Viewers may vote online and on their mobile phones to select the nominees for the 18th annual Movie Awards. (MTV)
Relapse hits stores Tuesday, May 19th via Interscope Records.
