A man was reportedly shot after a Drake and Sly Polaroid concert that took place over the weekend in Illinois.
The incident occurred shortly after the hip-hop show came to a close.
Just after 4 a.m. police responded to the area around the House of Blues on Saturday (May 16) morning. More than 1,000 people had gotten out of a show at the concert venue about that time, so crowd control was also a factor. Police found the victim shot in the buttocks. The House of Blues was host to the rap acts Drake and Sly Polaroid for a show that began at 11:30 p.m. Friday. (WBBM News)
An altercation reportedly took place which sparked the near-fatal shooting.
The victim was involved in an "altercation" with someone who displayed a handgun, then shot the man and fled, said Chicago Police spokesman John Mirabelli. The victim, who was not identified, was listed in stable condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Detectives are investigating the case, and no one was in custody as of Saturday evening, police said. (Chicago Sun-Times)
Earlier this year, a fatal shooting erupted following an E-40 show in Colorado.
Terry Gaines Jr., 22, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder. Colorado Springs police officers were helping with crowd control at Mr. Biggs, 5825 Mark Dabling Blvd. in northwest Colorado Springs, as people poured into the parking lot after a show by E-40, a Bay Area rapper. Shortly after midnight police reported hearing gun shots, according to a news release. They found the victim shot and sitting in a silver sedan. Some officers tried to resuscitate the man until emergency crews arrived. Others began stopping vehicles on Mark Dabling. (Gazette)
Drake has made a name for himself due to his affiliation with Lil Wayne appearing on the road with the rapper at numerous venues.
"My friend Jazz Prince, J Prince of Rap-a-Lot?s son', he played Wayne a couple of my songs and Wayne called me when I was in the barber chair getting a haircut, and he was like, 'Dude, I just heard two songs from you and you got a whole CD of shit here, I don't even need to hear anymore, I just need you here right now, can you get to Houston,'" Drake explained in a past interview about linking with Weezy. "So I came out the next night. That was my first time in Houston and the culture and the city was so overwhelming. I felt like I hit Houston and got my swag back. I was single, I was with Wayne and it was Houston, I was going nuts, sipping drank, smoking, it was fun to me. And then you get 'Ignorant Sh*t,' which is what came out of my meeting with Wayne."
