Prior to the film's release, SOHH spoke with Notorious star Jamal "Gravy" Woolard about filling in the shoes of the late rapper.
"I was at 285 [pounds]," Woolard explained. "I went up to 340. I didn't have a second chin. I needed that...Mannerisms, behavior, vocal training, knowing which hand he used to talk, the head rolls the rub of the nose, the breathing patterns...The walk, the wobble the way his feet pointed out...The chin, keeping the chin high so the eyes look closed, always screwing up your face, never having a solid face." (SOHH)
Upon its release last January, the film debuted at No. 4 with more than $20 million in box office sales.
Notorious, a biopic of slain rap artist Christopher Wallace, aka Notorious B.I.G., grossed an estimated $21.5 million from 1,638 theaters to post the best per-location average -- $13,126 -- of the weekend. Film was distributed by Fox but produced and marketed by Fox Searchlight. Its opening is the biggest ever for the specialty unit. (Variety)
