"Princess of The Roc," Teairra Mari, recently spoke to SOHH about life after Def Jam, and linking with her former labelmate, Kanye West, for her new album.
Though she was unceremoniously released from Def Jam, Teairra Mari didn't hesitate to collaborate with Kanye on her first Warner Brothers release At This Point.
"I have a song on the album with Kanye called 'Diamond' that's really really cute," Teairra told SOHH. "It's one of my favorites actually. It's really girlie and it's just about loving your man like you love your diamonds. You know how us girls how we love our diamonds. [Kanye and I] worked together before on my first single, he did a remix on it. We always see each other we knew each other through Def Jam, that was all still family and love." (SOHH)
"Diamonds" leaked on the internet earlier this month.
Another new track has leaked from Teairra Mari's forthcoming new album At That Point. The song is called "Diamonds" and features Kanye West. The Madd Scientist-produced track was originally Christina Milian's for her Dream In Color album. However, Ms Milian scrapped the song when she re-recorded her album under Radio Killa and changed the album title to Elope instead. (Toya's World)
Though she experienced some success with her first single, "Make Her Feel Good," in 2005 Mari was dropped from Def Jam the following year.
"I got a call before my high school graduation," recalls Mari. "I kept it to myself for about six months; I didn't even tell my mom. Then news about it started coming out on the radio. I stopped doing music for a year." (Rap-Up)
Now the 21-year-old singer has a new deal with Fo Reel/Warner Brothers and she looks back at her time on the Roc as a learning experience.
"I've learned so much in this business in my situation with Def Jam especially that I just put it all on to the album, my maturity my business savvy it's all on the album," she said. "I think that once everything went down that's when I starting thinking. 'Wow, maybe I wasn't given a fair shot.' But while it was all going on I never thought [that]. They could've put more effort into breaking the second single or maybe they should've picked another second single. There are so many things that could've been done differently that I see now but when I was in the situation I did not see or I would've spoke up. (SOHH)
Teairra's new album, At This Point, is slated for an early summer release.
Teairra Mari's breakout album, "At That point", has officially been pushed back until early this summer. "Cause a Scene" featuring Flo Rida, produced by The Runners is the first official single that will be released along with a video. (Press Release)
