Rap duo Method Man and Redman are hitting Staten Island, New York this weekend to provide free hair cuts for children in time for Easter Sunday.
While age limitations will be applied, eligible children will have their hair cut fees waived courtesy of Mef and Red.
Wu member and Staten Island native Method Man, along with partner in rhyme Redman, will join forces with Against 'Da Grain from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 11, offering the freshest fades and haircuts to children ages 12 and under at Against Da' Grain's new location, 821 Castleton Avenue. Barber Tariq has expressed the shop's reason for linking with the rap duo on this one-time occassion.
"We have wonderfully loyal customers and felt this was just another way of rewarding them during these unusually hard economic times. A single mother of three boys spends a weekly average of $33.00 on their hair cuts making it difficult to keep her kids hair freshly trimmed, Tariq said in a statement. "With Easter Sunday the following day, we felt it was the perfect time to team up with our celebrity friends and create a unique solution based on old traditional values while helping our community." Aside from the hair cuts, the rappers are also prepping the release of Blackout 2 slated for release next month.
I never really got the chance to sit down and actaully make an album," Mef said in an interview. "I mean really get in and make an album that was complete to the point that I was satisfied with it. Whereas my man's track record, he's made whole movies with an album. So with both those aspects brought on to this project, this is the most focused I've been really on any of the projects I've been on including Wu-Tang because there wasn't any rush, we had time to really think out what we wanted to do and it was a comfortable environment man. First time in a long a** time, man." (MTV)
Mef was recently named as one of the many actors starring in George Lucas' upcoming World War II film, Red Tails.
Lucasfilm said the movie, about the all-black crew, would star Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr., Nate Parker and Bryan Cranston. Other cast members include Tristan Wilds, Cliff Smith (better known as Method Man) and Ne-Yo. The film is to be directed by Anthony Hemingway and written by John Ridley. (New York Times)
The Blackout 2 is scheduled to hit stores Tuesday, May 19 while Red Tails has yet to release a production date.
