G.O.O.D. Music artist Scott "Kid Cudi" Mescudi has officially signed with Universal Motown and plans to release his debut album Man on the Mood: The Guardian this summer.
Universal Motown President Syliva Rhone confirmed the signing today (April 15) as he prepares to join a roster including Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes.
"Kid Cudi is at the vanguard of a game-changing new generation of artists," Rhone said in a statement. "He crosses musical boundaries with an appeal that goes beyond genre, format, race, language, and culture. Cudi lives easily in the hip-hop, indie rock, pop, and R&B worlds...He is a breath of fresh air - a dynamic and important new voice, not only in the next phase of hip-hop, but as a groundbreaking trendsetter who represents the future. I am thrilled to welcome Kid Cudi into the Universal Motown family." (Statement)
He will join labelmate Weezy on-stage in London this summer.
Adding a second performance to his touring plans after his first July 6th show reportedly sold-out for London's HMV Hammersmith Apollo venue, Wayne is now slated to perform the following day, July 7th, at the popular location with Kid Cudi billed for the first showcase. (Ticketmaster)
Aside from music, Cudi recently made headlines for being tasered by police at last February's NBA All-Star weekend.
"I was tasered (sh*t hurt like a muthaf*cka), I was not arrested," Cudi wrote in his blog. "I left in my car service immediately after the incident took place. I didn't put my hands on anyone...It wasn't over me wearing Jordans; I arrived at the event in the most fugliest Reeboks ever, forcefully...For those who care I'm okay. I appreciate your concern...As far as what really happened, I know the truth and God knows the truth and my peoples who were there know the truth and thats all that matters." (Kid Cudi Blog)
Cudi is known for his work and collaborations with Kanye West.
Currently the hottest new hip-hop artist in the United States, Kid Cudi has signed to Kanye West's label, is featured on the star's 808s & Heartbreak and has been supporting him on tour. Like his mentor, the 23-year-old, from Cleveland, Ohio is at the adventurous end of rap and his single "Day 'N' Nite" bridges the gap between dance and urban. (BBC News)
An exact release date for Cudi's debut album has yet to be released by the label.
