Grammy-winning rapper Eminem has been announced to perform at the upcoming MTV Movie Awards next month.

Em will hit the stage in California performing days after his new album Relapse has been released.

Airing live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California, on Sunday, May 31, at 9 p.m. ET, Eminem will join others scheduled to perform. Andy Samberg will host. On Monday (April 13), viewers will be able to vote online and on their mobile phones to select the nominees for the 18th annual Movie Awards. On May 4, the nominees will officially be announced, and viewers will once again be able to vote for their favorites online and from their mobile phones. (MTV)

Aside from his performance, Em has teamed with Vibe Magazine for a contest searching for the top battle emcee.

"Battling is the way I came up, so it's gonna be interesting to watch a rap battle unfold online," states Eminem. "VIBE is taking it out of the clubs and street corners and putting it on the net. MCs better bring it, because I'm watching." In the contest's first phase, all entrants will rhyme for 60 seconds over an instrumental track and submit video clips of their performance on numberonestan.com due by April 21, 2009. Vibe will send the Top 10 finalists a second instrumental track to rhyme over for 60 seconds, which will then be submitted to Eminem for careful review. His personal selection of the final two will be made by May 8, 2009. (Hip Hop Press)

Em recently made a return to the spotlight with his "We Made You" video premiere last Tuesday (April 7).

Slim Shady promised he was up to his old tricks in the video for "We Made You," his first solo clip since 2005. Debuted exclusively on MTV's "AMTV" this morning and directed by Joseph Kahn, Em does his best preening Bret Michaels, dangling a rose with a backstage pass on it in front of a line of rock star wannabes that includes impersonators of Sarah Palin (Lisa Ann), Samantha Ronson, Lindsay Lohan and a dentally challenged Amy Winehouse. Dr. Dre and 50 Cent make cameos in a casino scene alongside Em. (MTV)

The video stirred controversy with television host Bill O'Reilly.

"Few Americans take the vile rapper Eminem seriously," O'Reilly declared on his Fox show. "He represents the lowest form of entertainment in this country and is a publicity hound to boot. His attack on Sarah Palin, which is very crude, seems to be okay with the media...He's just a, I'm not even gonna do that...It's so crude what he does, kids see it, not adults. Nobody over 25 goes into this stuff...Eminem is obviously on an obscene rant about Sarah Palin, totally obscene, totally inappropriate, nothing good about it. Not a word from Media Matters, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, NBC News, any of the big media, nothing." (The O'Reilly Factor)
