Dipset's Cam'ron recently discussed his past rap beefs with hip-hop heavyweights 50 Cent, Nas and Jay-Z saying he was never the first to strike.
Speaking with hip-hop personality Miss Info, the rapper dished out the motivation behind his most publicized rap battles.
"I'm not making up fake, imaginary beefs," Cam said. "I'm not just jumping out for beef for no reason. When I went at Jay-Z, it was a lot of inside stuff that went on at Roc-A-Fella that we don't need to go in to...There's been a lot of times that I been wanting to do something but couldn't because of Dame [Dash]. The 50 Cent thing, look you dissing, I took it as Jim [Jones] and Diplomats. Whoever else you could think of, Nas. The Nas situation. You got on the radio and said that Cam and [Funkmaster] Flex is ugly and Angie Martinez and N.O.R.E., whoever's wack. It wasn't because I attacked any of these people, it's kinda all on defense, it's always something that somebody did to me first." (Miss Info)
Cam's issues with Jay reportedly began prior to the release of his Roc-A-Fella Records debut after a dispute over a record.
"F*cking Kanye [West] sells us a few beats, we watching the 'BET Awards,'" Jim Jones said in a video. "Jay-Z's about to perform his new single and he gets up there and its the beat we bought from Kanye which would now be 'H to the Izzo.' So now we steaming...Just Blaze blazed the 'Oh Boy' beat. We took that, that was ours. Strong arm, good lookin' Just Blaze."
"Just Blaze had the beats laying around so we in the studio," Juelz Santana said in a video. "The 'Oh Boy' sh*t was Jay's record. So we like f*ck it, just looped the sh*t up." (King Mag)
Following the release of his album Come Home With Me, Nas dissed Cam for appearing on the radio with Hot 97's Funkmaster Flex.
"To talk about people's moms and daughters, that's how you reach down and try to hurt somebody's feelings," Nas said of Cam's rhymes. "He's lost. He's looking for a way to sell records but he doesn't understand that he's getting used by Hot 97 for ratings and to speak up for Flex, who don't care about nobody except for himself. They got a dummy to be a dummy and go up on the radio and speak out against me. It's unfortunate because they're using [Cam'ron] and he's not even a part of my fight. My fight is against any power structure that's gonna try to hold the freedom of speech and that fight is not over yet." (MTV)
His most recent battle was with 50 around 2007 when he released the diss song "Curtis."
"Yep, so have a seat, this 'gon be a masterpiece," Cam rapped. "I have to beef, he look like a gorilla, with rabbit teeth/Bugs monkeys, act hard, with a crack god, that mack broads/That video ain't Queens, it's your backyard/Curtis, it's messin with your head bad/You that mad but dag that's security with red flags/You bangin five shootin rocks and signs my way."
