Wu-Tang Clan's Raekwon has revealed a record label shift, announcing his move to EMI for the release of his upcoming Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 project.
The "Chef" discussed the status of his forthcoming album along with confirming his jump to a new record label.
"The project is viscious right now," Raekwon said in an interview. "The album is done. I just closed my deal...I just signed with EMI...That's real news, that's real talk. I just signed off yesterday, you know what I mean. Made everything official. EMI is the home right now. They the ones that's paying me. They gave me a nice piece of what I needed...At the end of the day, it's gonna be raw hip-hop." (On-Air Idiots Show)
Rae previously spoke with SOHH about joining Dr. Dre's Aftermath Records in 2006.
"It is a privilege to be signed to a label such as Aftermath," the Chef said. "I am honored to be working with Dr Dre. I look forward to releasing my album, Only Built for Cuban Linx 2 in 2007, which will feature production from Dr Dre, The RZA and other legendary producers. Get ready for the New York takeover!" The rapper has been promoting his upcoming album in various interviews.
"I want y'all to know Cuban Linx is a brand, a lifestyle," he said in a summer 2008 interview. "I will not throw that project out if it do not have that glow that it's supposed to have. It's totally different from anyone else's world. This is for all the real Cuban Linx n*ggas." (Hip Hop Official)
He will now join Twista who recently signed a deal with EMI earlier this year.
Twista left Atlantic Records in 2007 and launched his own label, Get Money Gang Entertainment, in 2008. However, the "Slow Jamz" hitmaker has now secured a distribution deal with EMI that will see his forthcoming album Category F5 released in a joint venture with Get Money Gang, EMI and Capitol Records.
