Rapper-turned-reality star Artis "Coolio" Ivey has been charged with crack cocaine possession and battery, as new details surfaced from his arrested last week at Los Angeles International Airport.
The popular 1990's rapper received multiple charges which could lead to jail time.
Ivey was charged with one felony count of possession, and one misdemeanor count each of battery and possession of paraphernalia. He was released on $10,000 bail and is scheduled for arraignment April 3. (Associated Press)
More details on his arrest and charges have emerged including why he received a battery charge.
The Grammy-winning performer, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey, was taken into custody at the airport on Friday after authorities said they found the drug and a crack pipe in his luggage. The battery charge was included because the performer grabbed an airport screener's arm to prevent the search of his luggage, said Jane Robison, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney. He faces a maximum sentence of three years in state prison if convicted and is scheduled to appear in court on April 3. (Reuters)
Coolio was reportedly on his way to perform in Oklahoma upon being arrested.
The recording artist reportedly was attempting to board a Southwest Airlines flight to Tulsa, Ok., where he was slated to perform with Tone Loc and Shock G of The Digital Underground when airport security allegedly discovered he had crack cocaine on his person. (SOHH)
He has over two decades of history within the entertainment industry.
Coolio has not had a chart hit in nearly a decade, but he has made a second career as an actor, appearing on "Charmed" and "Futurama," as well as a number of reality shows, including "Celebrity Fear Factor," "Celebrity Bootcamp" and the recent online cooking show, "Cookin' With Coolio." Last year, he and his family starred in the Oxygen network reality show "Coolio's Rules," and he was seen in the British "Celebrity Big Brother" program in January, alongside such C-list celebrities as LaToya Jackson, buxom English pinup Lucy Pinder and Verne Troyer.
