Grammy-winning rapper Lil' Wayne's rock-based album The Rebirth has been pushed back a month from its initial release date this spring.
The highly-anticipated solo project will drop as summer 2009 approaches.
Weezy has pushed back the release date of his rock-and-roll LP Rebirth from April 7 to May 19. The video for the album's first single, "Prom Queen," however, has been shot and should be released soon. In addition to Rebirth, Wayne is still working on Tha Carter IV, the Hot Boys reunion LP and an album featuring all the artists on his Young Money label, including Mack Maine, Jae Millz, Kid Kid and Nicki Minaj. He will also be hitting the road again re-launching his popular "I Am Music" tour.
Joined by T-Pain, Keri Hilson, Gym Class Heroes and Gorilla Zoe, Wayne will tour in popular cities including Providence, Newark, Baltimore, San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Indianapolis and Wallingford. (Ticketmaster)
Recently showing an interest in rock music as seen on-stage performing with Kid Rock last year, Weezy's protege Drake confirmed the rapper's desire to craft an entirely new-sounding album.
Drake says Weezy's album will be a major musical departure, much like Kanye's latest. "It's something different in just that whole 808's and Heartbreaks, just throwing individuals off." (MuchMusic)
Weezy's Tha Carter III won four trophies at the 51st Grammy Awards earlier this month.
Lil' Wayne won rap album of the year for Tha Carter III as well as best rap solo performance for "A Milli," rap song for "Lollipop" and rap/sung collaboration for "Swagga Like Us" during the pre-telecast. The artist, who joined Allen Toussaint, Terence Blanchard and Robin Thicke for a musical salute to New Orleans, led the nominee field going into the ceremony with nods in eight categories.
