Grammy-winning rapper Lil' Wayne has been sued for $1.3 million by a New York concert promoter after he failed to appear at a concert for a third consecutive time.
The plaintiff claims Weezy has canceled three times over the past four months.
Filed in New York City, Edward Strickland, GM of RMF Productions, is suing Wayne, his manager and others for $1.3 mil. Strickland says he advanced Lil' $100K back in October and got nothin'. Strickland said the last he heard from Wayne was via email canceling the third concert... which Lil' said was due to "logistics of his band." (TMZ)
Weezy's last cancelation was for his January 21 performance in Rochester.
Rapper Lil' Wayne has canceled a scheduled appearance at the Blue Cross Arena for the third time. Jeff Calkins, the arena's general manager, said he had not yet heard a reason for canceling the concert, which was set for Wednesday. Refunds are available at the point of sale: Consumers may take tickets to the Blue Cross box office or contact Ticketmaster (585-232-1900) by Feb. 6. (Democrat & Chronicle)
Despite the unexpected decision, the rapper's manager, Cortez Bryant, justified missing the scheduled date.
"Now that Wayne's doing these bigger shows, he wants to make sure that all of his fans are getting the same experience," he said. "It would have been too difficult to travel with the entire band, then turn around and head to Calgary the next day. We didn't want the Rochester fans to get any less of a show because of logistics. We wanted to deliver the same caliber show we've delivered along the tour." (All Hip Hop)
Weezy was on his popular nationwide "I Am Music" tour at the time.
The cross country tour will feature special appearances by T-Pain,Keyshia Cole, Gym Class Heroes and Keri Hilson. Beginning on the East Coast, Weezy will make stops in Houston, Oakland, Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta, Charlotte and other spots before ending in January. (SOHH)
