While details on when Dr. Dre's Detox album will be released are still foggy, hip-hop mogul Nas has confirmed his appearance on the project.
The Queens, New York-bred emcee claims one track is in the books.
"I did a joint. I think it's crazy," Nas says of working with Dre. "He's someone I'd love to do a whole album with one day. He's incredible. I think he's the best producer of all time." (Billboard)
Both Dre and Nas worked closely together on the mid-90's rap group, The Firm.
The East Coast gangsta rap supergroup the Firm never lived up to its excessive hype and instead became a brief footnote in the careers of its main participants. The foursome included four New York rappers -- Nas, Foxy Brown, AZ, and Nature -- but was actually the pet project of its producers: Nas Escobar (as he referred to himself at the time), Steve "Commissioner" Stoute, Dr. Dre and the Trackmasters.
Dre previously promised appearances by Lil' Wayne and Jay-Z while originally aiming to release Detox late last year.
"In a perfect world, I'm shooting for a November or December release," Dre said in an interview. "I've never set out to do that," says Dre, 43. "I just make the music feel the way I want it to feel and I don't put it out until I'm totally happy with it. Then it does what it does." (USA Today)
Interscope head Jimmy Iovine justified the album's delay on Dre's other priorities.
While not offering an exact date, Jimmy promised the producer would be on hand to finish Em's forthcoming release, Relapse by January 2009 and then complete his own at the start of next year. (SOHH)
As of today (Feburary 2), no release date has been released on Detox.
