Teen rap star Soulja Boy Tell 'Em's long-awaited online series, "Soulja Boy Tell 'Em: The Animated Series" officially debuted today.
"I always wanted to do a cartoon since I was younger," the Atlanta-bred MC said in a statement. "I am excited because I think that the subject matter will give my fans what they would expect from me."
Partnering with his label Interscope Records and running the series via www.souljaboytellem.com, PRNewswire displays the company's strong desire to work with the Southern emcee.
"Soulja Boy is one of the most charismatic artists of his generation," said Brian Washington, Marketing Director for Interscope Records. "His ability to speak to his fans and, just as importantly, the way in which he does so, make him such an innovator in how music and entertainment is consumed and discovered today."
As previously reported by SOHH, today's launch will be a three-webisodes feature, fusing animation and live action with a few established actors.
Alfonso Ribiero, most notable as Carlton Banks from "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" will portray the cartoon's principal. More characters will be announced via the emcee's next upcoming music video following the release of his new album, iSouljaBoyTellem.
While the show has just launched on his site, Billboard reported that the rapper is already searching for a major cable network to continue the series.
Soulja Boy launched an animated/live-action cartoon, by the creators of Adult Swim's "Robot Chicken," on his Web site. He plays a celebrity teenager that has to go back to class and finish the school year. Soulja Boy, Arab and friend Jabar are animated characters, while the rest of the cast, including Alfonso Ribeiro--who played Carlton in "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and here portrays the school principal--are actors. Soulja Boy hopes a TV network will pick up the series and is targeting Comedy Central or Cartoon Network.
No word as of today (January 6) on whether a company is considering the project for its future programming.
