The producers behind Lil' Wayne's first single "Prom Queen" off The Rebirth have revealed details on the construction of Weezy's forthcoming rock album.
"Mr. Carter" beat makers Infamous and Drew Correa offered details on the project's beginnings.
"There were rumors Wayne was working on a rock album, but I assumed it was just 808 drums with guitars on it," Infamous said. "But, that night when we worked on the track, [Wayne] said he wanted lots of drums, bass and guitars. Drew started to add organs, and [Wayne] said no. That's when I realized it was actually going to be a real rock album. You gotta give him credit - he's done everything he can with hip-hop and has proven himself. Now he's about to prove himself as a rocker and we're excited to be a part of it." (Billboard)
Others close to the rapper have recently spoken on the upcoming rock album.
Wayne protege Drake says Weezy's album will be a major musical departure, much like Kanye's latest. "It's something different in just that whole 808's and Hearbreaks, just throwing individuals off." (MuchMusic)
Weezy's new project was confirmed last week.
Lil' Wayne announced the official release date and title of his next album: Rebirth is due April 7 -- and his publicist has confirmed to MTV News that it will be a rock album. The first single is called "Prom Queen."(MTV)
