Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West's popular blog was recently praised at the digital music conference MidemNet in Cannes.
Panelists at MidemNet reviewed key features that helped West's blog become superior to other artist sites.
West was described as one of the most effective communicators with his fans. Consultant to West, Bryan Calhoun, said the rapper is "very active with communicating with his fans" on his blog and sometime posts seven or eight times a day. His music recommendations on the site have made him something of a tastemaker, or "curator for what is cool." The "significant amount of traffic" to the blog also means it makes money from advertising, Calhoun added. (Billboard)
The 48 hour MidemNet conference analyzes the relationship between artists and their fans.
In 10 years MidemNet has become the definitive event for monetising music in the digital age. This stand alone event offers two days of intense conference sessions and serious networking with unequalled opportunities to debate and engage with more than 1,400 key international executives and actively participate in shaping the industry's future. Stepping aside from his blog, West will next join the likes of Kid Rock, Fall Out Boy and more at Tuesday's Youth Inaugural Ball.
They will perform on Inauguration Day and air on MTV as part of "Be The Change: Live at the Inaugural." Rosario Dawson and Usher will serve as MTV correspondents to the event, and the show will include footage from service activities around the country on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, including Usher working with 200 young people to clean up Simon Elementary School in Washington, D.C. The Youth Inaugural Ball will air live on MTV at 10 p.m. EST Tuesday, January 20.
