The man allegedly responsible for murdering James "Soulja Slim" Tapp was a no-show for his scheduled court appearance this week.

Garelle Smith is currently on the run in New Orleans, Louisiana.

"I didn't figure he'd stay in there. He done beat so many charges," said Linda Tapp Porter. Smith was accused of killing her son, rapper Soulja Slim, in 2003. According to court records, Smith has been accused of murder four times in Orleans Parish but never convicted. He also has more than 15 felony arrests on his record. If he's arrested and convicted on a property damage charge, Smith could be sentenced to some prison time. Sources said it would likely be less than five years.

The late rapper was a major act of Master P's No Limit Soliders record label.

Rapper Soulja Slim made his solo debut in 1998 with Give It 2 'Em Raw. Following a prison stint for armed robbery, Slim reappeared three years later with Streets Made Me, and after a move to Cut Throat Committy, Years Later followed in late 2002. The following year he released Years Later...A Few Months After, which would prove to be the last the world would hear of Soulja Slim. Only 25 at the time, the New Orleans rapper was shot to death in front of his home on November 26, 2003. (All Music Guide)
