M.K. Asante Jr., author of upcoming book, It's Bigger Than Hip-Hop; The Rise of the Post Hip-Hop Generation has tapped award winning poet Maya Angelou to narrate his latest documentary project, The Black Candle.
The Black Candle is a rare feature film on Kwanzaa, the week-long
holiday which honors African-American heritage. It uses the holiday as a vehicle
to explore the struggle and triumph of the African-American family,
community and culture.
The documentary, which was scored by Grammy award-winning musicians Nnenna Freelon and Derrick Hodge, was screened in theaters nation-wide this fall and now it's available on DVD.
