Still coming to terms with the murder of family, Jennifer Hudson attended a private funeral service in Chicago on Monday (November 3) for her mother, brother and nephew.
Taking the time to approach and wish farewell to her nephew, Julian King, mother Darnell Donerson and brother Jason Hudson, the singer displayed her composed emotion as she returned to sit next to her sister, Julia, and fiancee David "Punk" Otunga.
"Jennifer is the pillar," family friend Glover Lewis told Tribune. "It's obvious she's holding the family together."
The private service also featured gospel singing including a song fellow "American Idol" alumni Fantasia and a speech by Reverend Jesse Jackson.
"Family members were crying and smiling," Reverend Clyde Nash told the Tribune. "I saw smiles in spite of the tragedies."
As previously reported by SOHH, hundreds of Chicago citizens expressed their support and sorrow for the slaying of Hudson's family during a public memorial service in Chicago over the weekend.
According to People, hundreds of city residents paid their respects on Sunday night (November 2) to the three family members at the Pleasant Gift Missionary Baptist Church.
Chicago authorities have arrested Hudson's brother-in-law William Balfour as the primary suspect behind the murders. While he has not been charged with their deaths, he is currently being held behind bars for violating his parole in a separate case. Balfour has informed police that he is not willing to submit himself to a lie-detector test.
The R&B singer lost her family members late last month (October 24) after they were discovered with fatal gun shot wounds in Donerson's Chicago home.
