"Basically I was doing a lot of mixtape stuff, I was basically just trying out different swags," he told SOHH. "I started hopping on songs with like Juelz Santana and Gucci [Mane] and all these different artists and you know they on the verses just killing me. I'm like, 'Oh I gotta come wit it.'"
Admitting his lyricism grew from competing with other mainstream rappers on the mixtape circuit, Soulja Boy also explained how his overall rhythm began to fall into place.
"Basically, my flow just got stupid, I just started enhancing more and more every time I went into the studio," he said. "So basically every track my flow is just on. I'm just riding the whole beat perfectly."
Despite having a star-studded line-up of guest appearances on the new album, including T.I., Gucci, Shawty Lo, Yo Gotti and Bow Wow, his favorite track is the intro.
"It just starts off with me just straight flowing," he said. "It's a Drumma Boy beat and basically just like my flow done enhanced so much since the first album 'cause I been around a lot of different artists."
With the popularity of the LP's first single "Bird Walk," the rap sensation teamed up with Polow Da Don for the follow-up record, "Yamaha Mama."
"It's featuring Sean Kingston," he said. "It's basically like another record dedicated to all of my females fans. You know it's gonna be like a super money video on the beach with all the sun, sunlight and the water and all that."
