Hip-Hop superstar Ludacris helped celebrate the release of his new album, Theater of the Mind, by surprising fans with a star-studded cast of unexpected guests in New York City last night (November 25).
Presented by Def Jam and New York urban station Hot 97, the pre-show at Manhattan's Highline Ballroom was powered by DJ Enuff and Funkmaster Flex who spun party records as other radio personalties like Angie Martinez and DJ Envy hit the stage as fans packed the venue. Celebrity guests spotted throughout the crowd included legednary 3rd Bass rapper MC Serch and MTV's Sway.
Showing the crowd Luda was in the building, the rap star's DJ JC and Distrubing Tha Peace executive Chaka Zulu placed the finishing touches on their set as Angie got the crowd ready.
"Make some noise for Ludacris," Angie told the screaming audience. "Hold up, hold up, hold up, let me do it again, bring it back. Make some noise for Ludacris! Go get 'em, baby!"
Entering to his new album's "Intro" record and asking the crowd, "How the hell are y'all?" Luda hit the stage alongside original DTP member Lil' Fate unleashing handfuls of classic records including "Southern Hospitality," "Ho," "Splash Waterfalls" and "Yeah"
Promising the night would be filled with surprises, Luda began his unveiling of guest appearances introducing T-Pain as they performed "I'm So Hood" plus "One More Drink" and the auto-tune king's new single "Chopped & Screwed."
Continuing to heat things up, Luda brought out Shawnna who helped perform "What's Your Fantasy" and "Gettin' Some" before confirming an upcoming 2009 collaboration album with Luda called Battle of the Sexes.
"I love you New York ladies," Shawnna told the female audience. "We run this sh*t. Free Remy Ma, ya dig? Believe that, it's official. Me, Battle of the Sexes, so ladies, that means you gotta support me - battle, that means whose better, the women or the men?"
Keeping things moving, Luda then brought out New York's own DJ Premier as he performed his new cut "MVP" and then decided to make the concert erupt by introducing LL Cool J to rap on "Fatty Girl" along with other songs like "Head Sprung" tossing hundred dollar bills to the front audience.
Not stopping there, the rapper then brought out D-Block's Jadakiss to perform the remix to Nas' '"Made You Look" along with Jim Jones and Juelz Santana who helped close down the packed show New York style with a handful of records including "Pop Bottles," "We Fly High," "The Whistle Song" and "Santana's Town."
Thanking the audience for their support, Luda left the stage as fans chanted his name.
