Teenage rapper Soulja Boy Tell Em is preparing to place the finishing touches on his upcoming sophomore album iSouljaboytellem with the release date currently scheduled for this December.
According to Billboard, the Atlanta based rapper/producer, known for his mega-hit "Crank That (Soulja Boy)," has hit the studio with Mr. Collipark and Polow Da Don for the forthcoming album. The project's first single "Birdwalk" is slated to debut on radio this week with a music video scheduled to follow.
Being released under Collipark/Interscope Records, the disc is set to feature fellow teen artist Sean Kingston on the song "Yamaha Mama" along with another track called "Turn My Swag On," both set to impact radio in the following weeks.
Soulja Boy will also have to face stiff competition at the stores as Interscope has also scheduled the release of rap superstar 50 Cent's highly anticipated album Before I Self Destruct a week earlier (December 9), along with a star studded line-up of end of the year releases including discs from Plies and a possibly even Jay-Z. 106 & Park's Terrance J stressed with SOHH the impact of albums dropping around that time.
"Fourth quarter is always when the big boys come out," Terrance said. "When the Jay-Zs and the Nas' drop, when 50 and Kanye drop."
According to the Nielsen SoundScan, SB's debut album Souljaboytellem.com has sold over 949,000 copies in the United States alone while "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" has generated 3.86 million downloads.
iSouljaboytellem is currently scheduled to hit all retail stores on Tuesday, December 16
In related news, the rapper recently signed a multi-year sneaker and clothing deal with Dallas-based apparel line Yum Shoes. He is scheduled to release both the first line of his sneakers and his online animated series, which can be found on his official website, souljaboytellem.com, beginning next month.
