Ludacris' latest flick, the video game based, action movie Max Payne, debuted at No. 1 over the weekend, making around $18 million in box office sales.
According to Variety, the 20th Century Fox film, which also starred Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis, secured the top position during a weekend of debuts and became the third best opening of the fall, following earlier releases Chihuahua and Eagle Eye. Company executives were pleased with the numbers.
"We're thrilled," Fox senior VP of domestic distribution Bert Livingston told Variety. "Fox had a great weekend. We had something for everyone."
Opening up at 3,376 theaters, the film
portrays Wahlberg as the lead character violently searching to find the
killer of his family.
Another big weekend debut was the highly-anticipated movie The Secret Life of Bees, which opened up at No. 3 with over $11 million in ticket sales. Starring a star-studded cast including Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson and Queen Latifah, the movie aimed at attracting a diverse, cross section of viewers.
"It is playing to all ages, and all ethnicities," Fox co-chief operating officer Steve Gilula told Variety.
Based on the best-selling book by Sue Monk Kidd,
the story revolves around a 14 year-old girl haunted by the memory of
her mother's death, as she runs away from a troubled home in South
Carolina to live with three black women.
I like how you didn't bother to mention Dakota's name, despite her being the main character. And it's also funny how you mention that the movie is aimed towards all diversities, but you only took the time to name Alicia, Jennifer, and Queen.
I remember working at a public library and "the secret life of bees" is my choice.....
Jesus, you have to be THAT bored to go and watch a movie that revolves around violence and the Max Payne game I do have..........but I'd never see that shit.........PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!
