Lil Wayne

Last night, British R&B artist Jay Sean announced that he had inked a deal with Cash Money Records, the label home of Lil' Wayne.

While Sean didn't pick up any honors at last night's MOBOs (Music of Black Origin) -the biggest award show in British urban music - he did have some good news to share backstage. The UK R&B star announced that he had signed a deal with Cash Money/Universal.

During a recent trip to Miami, Jay officially signed with the label and met Wayne and the rest of the Cash Money family. As a result of the deal, Cash Money has exclusive rights to release Jay Sean's most recent album, My Own Way in the United States.  His forthcoming albums will also be released by the imprint.

"It's always been a dream for me to sign to an American label," Jay wrote in a blog posted on his official myspace page. "And it's great to be accepted by the best in the game."

Jay Sean already has a collabo with his label mate Weezy in the works and the self-proclaimed "best rapper alive" will be also be dropping a verse on a remix of Jay's upcoming single, "Tonight," which will be featured on a repackaged version of My Own Way.

My Own Way will be released in the United States during the spring of 2009.

man lil wayne is od commercial but signing jay sean was a great decision
hes def gonna get this done

Yoooooo! Hell yea! About time some Asian talent is recognized. Cash money, though? Eh, at least he coming to the states tho

This guy is the truth. I hope he makes it big across the pond.

Jay Sean is pants. There are a million better UK artists. Americans always pick up on the worst British talent - Lady Sovereign (wtf!), M.I.A, S.A.S, Estelle etc, while GOOD artists like Baby Blu, Roots Manuva, Ty, Skinny Man, Sincere and Donaeo continue to get overlooked year after year. Jay Sean can just about sing. He has no swagger and is an all-round average artist. Why the hell would Cash Money sign him? They've obviously done no research whatsoever to make that decision. He will be way out of his depth in a land that has fantastic singers on every corner. Yes, I am a hater - I hate the way mediocre artists shine when the real talented ones struggle.

There is a great article on InsideDesi on this: http://www.insidedesi.com/2008/10/16/jay-sean-cash-money/

Had he signed with a more contemporary U.S record label e.g. Arista, Def Jam, even Bad Boy then it would have been something to look forward to.

Re: ManovSteele

okay whatever you jsut said WOWOWOWOWOW. are u stupid or something? you are a stupid hater. im not asking you to like Jay sean but you CLEARLY dont knwo wut ur talking about.... oh yeah obviously Americans pick the worst British talent rite? and thats why that British talent becomes SO successfull.. HA....
youre saying CashMoney hasnt done their research? wow clearly YOU havent. CashMoney doesnt only want artists that rap and do hiphop .. they want a good overall.. rock.. pop... r&b .. soul. theyre wanting to EXPAND. if you knew u were talking about it would make sense but you dont. and if theyre such a big record label dont you think they would do their research? im sure they know what they are talking about. Btw have you heard this artist sing? He has talent. Youre jsut jealous ... LOL ~

Jay Sean will either be dropped ASAP or be depressed he can't leave the lable, unhappy, low on money, album on the shelves and binded by a contract.
Look at Cash Money's History with artists, Juvenile, Turk, B.G, Mannie Fresh, Boo&Gotti, Mack10, TQ and all the other ni99az who dissapeared of the face of the earth after signing to them.

If TQ failed hard over there, WTF do you think jay sean is gonna do?
