Today in Anaheim, California Ludacris will take to the field during the Angels Vs. the Yankees baseball game to debut a new theme song created by a contest winner on his social networking site, WeMix.com.
The Grammy award winning rapper recently teamed up with Torri Hunter of the Los Angeles Angels to find a song for the MLB outfielder.
"A lot of athletes get motivated by listening to different kinds of music," Luda told SOHH. "He just wanted a song that he could come out to because they have the freedom of coming out to different songs. From there we kinda bumped heads and we figured out how the hell we could get this together on WeMix so we developed a contest and the contest was to make an original song for Torri."
,p>Once the contest was launched, thousands of entries spanning all genres of music poured in and Ludacris allowed the WeMix.com users to select the finalists.
"We had it narrowed down to about 10 songs [and] him and I just chose from the best songs," Luda explained.
The winning track called "The Love of The Game" was created by a songwriter named Ripchord.
"It was really broad," Luda says of the winning song. "It can go not only for baseball but for any kinda sport whether it be football, basketball, any of that stuff you feel the energy in it. I just thought it was a perfect fit."
Though Torii Hunter is currently serving a two-game suspension for getting into a recent scuffle with Yankees player, Ivan Rodriguez, Luda says fans won't have to wait too long to hear, "The Love of The Game."
"You can listen to on WeMix right now and it'll be up on iTunes by the time he comes back off suspension," Ludacris said.
Twenty five percent of the proceeds from digital sales will go to the Torii Hunter foundation, which builds baseball diamonds and develops baseball education opportunities in impoverished communities nationwide.
