In this week's Pulse Report the streets are buzzing about Nas calling out 50 Cent, Jay-Z swagger-jacking Kanye West, Rick Ross opting for a new flavor over Foxy Brown and Young Buck firing blanks at G-Unit.
ome1. Nas Is Coming. As if 50 Cent doesn't have enough enemies to contend with - Young Buck, The Game, Fat Joe and Shaniqua Tompkins - Nas is throwing his hat in the ring as another adversary for the G-Unit general.
Apparently Nas is finally ready to take aim at Fif after being on the receiving end of many insults over the past few years. On the track "Queens Get The Money" from his much anticipated album Untitled, Nas seemingly fires a dart at the fellow Queens native. Though he doesn't directly call out 50, it can be assumed from lyrics like this.
"Niggas is still hatin' / talkin that Nas done fell off with rhyming / he'd rather floss with diamonds / they pray please god let him spit that oozie in the army lining that shorty doo-wop rolling oowops in the park reclining take twenty-seven mc's put em / in a line and they out of alignment / my assignment said she said retirement hiding behind 8 Mile and The Chronic / get rich but dies rhyming / this is high science / now add 23 more from Queens to B'more / I'm over they heads like a bulimic on a seesaw / Now that's 50 porch monkeys ate up at the same time"
Uh oh. Could we be on the verge of "Ether 2?" 50 better be careful here. He has to take into account he's never been to war with anyone like Nas. While he's bumped heads (pause) with Ja Rule, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, The Game, and now Young Buck, Nas has been to battle with Notorious B.I.G and Jay-Z. There is no question Escobar would be his toughest lyrical competition to date.
Where are the G-Unit soldiers? Talk to me. Is 50 about to be ethered or is Nas about to be one dead "n*gger?"
2. Friend Or Foe? Meanwhile in other 50 Cent beef news, the saga continues between Young Buck and G-Unit. Oddly while 50 Cent appears to be leaning towards peace, Buck is gearing up for all out war. In an interview with MTV, 50 said he doesn't see his one time associate as an enemy.
"Buck is a disappointment for me," he said. "I treated him like a younger brother. ... He's not an enemy now."
On the flipside, the Tenn-A-Key rapper fired off another diss record at the group he was infamously "dis-membered" from. Dubbed "Terminate On Site" an obvious play on the group's current album title, Buck lyrically attacks Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks financial prowess and challenges 50 to a record sales battle. [Listen here]
"Get your own money Yayo, 50 money ain't yours," he raps. "Get you own money Banks, 50 money ain't yours. No they can't deal with me/so ya'll go get 50/and we can play like you and Kanye but he don't want to go there with me"
Come on Buck! You're making it hard for me to root for you in this thing. Seriously, if you're going to wage war against the Unit, that's not the way to do it. Real amateur-ish stuff right there. How are you going to put Yayo and Banks on blast for mooching off 50's money when you're the one that owes him $200,000. SMH. How bout you get your own money and stop borrowing 50's. And to challenge 50 to a SoundScan battle is ludicrous. That's career suicide right there. But then again I understand you've been through a lot in the last two weeks so you might just be confused.
50 may be putting Buck on the backburner, because he's preparing for a bigger fight with T.I.
3. Big Biter. True, by the end of this column Jay-Z will probably have started another trend. However what happens when a trend he's trying to start has already been done. The "greatest old rapper alive" was recently seen on UK talk show "Friday Night With Jonathan Rose" wearing some over sized specs similar to the kind little brother Kanye West occasionally dons. [Watch Here]
Damn. Kanye get a pair of goofy bifocals, next thing you know Jay-Z got a pair of goofy bifocals. No way Jose! All I gotta say is, Ye don't say nothing to Jay Brown about this. You know its going to get back to Jay if you say anything to him and that n*gga is a snitch.
4. Fallen Starr. Former Onyx member Freddo Starr, remember him? "Throw ya guns in the air"..."Slam"..."duuh duuh duuh." Remember? Just google him. Anyway the mid-90's rap star took advantage of some camera time he received from a minor league hip-hop DVD magazine to air out 50 Cent, tout his status as a former Koch Records artist and expose Brandy's oral talents. [Watch here]
Here's what he had to say:
"Last time I saw 50 we had a fight, straight the f*ck up. That's still my son no matter what."
"When I was at Koch before Dipset, Cam'ron, Jim Jones, all them corny n*ggas, them n*ggas ain't even have a name. I made Koch what Koch was because before I was at Koch nobody knew who the f*ck they was."
"Naw I never f*cked her [Brandy]. Head was good though. Head was crazy."
SMH. What a clown! As I remember it the alleged "fight" between 50 and Fredro happened at the Vibe Awards. What really happened was 50 slapped Fredro and that was it. No fight. No nothing. Just a straight slap. Next! Is this dude really proud of the fact that he was the inaugural artist on Koch? Really? You're proud of falling off. Sorry Prodigy you are not the first artist to make falling off cool, Fredro beat you to it. As for Brandy, all I can say it's a perfect segue to my next entry.
5. Who You With? Rick Ross is a big guy with a whole lot of love to give. After the gossip mill was set ablaze with the rumor that the Miami behemoth was set to tie the knot with Brooklyn diva/ex-con Foxy Brown, Ross may have found a new flavor of the month. SOHH caught up with Ross on the red carpet at the BET Awards, as he was getting quite snug with "Flavor Of Love" alum, Buckeey. During the red carpet interview Ross cozied up with the reality show hottie, while sarcastically poking fun at the rumor he was an item with Brown.
"They got a lot of rumors out on me now," he said as he cuddled with the voluptuous vixen. "This the rumor right here. 'm feeling this I ain't gone lie. This my baby right here. She doing big things ya'll look out for it. And she got an interlude on my new album."
Damn. Sorry Foxy looks like Ross isn't quite ready to settle down just yet. And who can blame him. Who would you rather be with? Foxy Boogie or Buckeey? There is no question Buckeey wins that competition, as one would have to question whether Foxy's nana is still ill. Plus you've gotta give it up for Buckeey, "she's doing big things," and she knows how to get ahead in life. (If you've seen the tape you know what I mean.) Look she's even got an interlude on Ross' album. Now I've heard of "f*cking for tracks," but "f*cking for interludes" speaks to dire straits the recession has put hip-hop in. You can't even give up an entire track. Chicks are going to have to settle for interludes.
That's all folks.
I know it's been awhile since we chopped it up, so let's reconnect at email@example.com.
