G.O.O.D Music affiliate 2 Chainz recently reacted to the viral buzz Kanye West created after proclaiming his “New Slaves” second verse one of the best 16 bars in hip-hop history.
Rather than spark a debate over Ye’s claim, Chainz analyzed why Kanye is one of the rare artists who can get away with such a high-caliber remark.
“Yeah. That’s how he feels, man. He feels about it strongly,” Chainz told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway. “As far as his rants and things of that nature, a lot of things that he does and says, at least when we’re on the phone, I tell him, ‘You have more money than me, so please. I think these things, but I can’t say all these things.'” It was a chest-pounding statement, one befitting someone as powerful as Kanye. “I think us as hip-hop people, we’re kinda like superheroes in some people’s eyes. You got different people playing different roles,” Deuce theorized. “I’m sure ‘Ye is his own superhero, I’m my own superhero. That’s how we kinda kick it.” (MTV)
Last weekend, Kanye applauded himself for penning his best verse on the new Yeezus album.
“I open the debate… The 2nd verse of New Slaves is the best rap verse of all time….meaning … OF ALL TIME IN THE HISTORY OF RAP MUSIC, PERIOD,” Kanye tweeted July 20. (Kanye West’s Twitter)
Ye spits rhymes about free will, going against the corporate world and more in his “New Slaves” second verse.
“I throw these Maybach keys /I wear my heart on the sleeve /I know that we the new slaves /I see the blood on the leaves /I see the blood on the leaves /I see the blood on the leaves /I know that we the new slaves /I see the blood on the leaves /They throwin’ hate at me /Want me to stay at ease /F*ck you and your corporation /Y’all n*ggas can’t control me /I know that we the new slaves /I know that we the new slaves /I’m ’bout to wild the f*ck out /I’m going Bobby Boucher /I know that p*ssy ain’t free /You n*ggas p*ssy, ain’t me /Y’all throwin’ contracts at me /You know that n*ggas can’t read” (“New Slaves”)
Coincidentally, Yeezy also rhymes about smashing reporters’ recorders on the verse.
“Throw ‘em some Maybach keys /F*ck it, c’est la vie /I know that we the new slaves /Y’all n*ggas can’t f*ck with me /Y’all n*ggas can’t f*ck with Ye /Y’all n*ggas can’t f*ck with Ye /I’ll move my family out the country /So you can’t see where I stay /So go and grab the reporters /So I can smash their recorders /See they’ll confuse us with some bullshit /Like the New World Order /Meanwhile the DEA /Teamed up with the CCA /They tryna lock n*ggas up /They tryna make new slaves /See that’s that privately owned prison /Get your piece today /They prolly all in the Hamptons /Bragging ’bout what they made /F*ck you and your Hampton house /I’ll f*ck your Hampton spouse /Came on her Hampton blouse /And in her Hampton mouth /Y’all ’bout to turn sh*t up /I’m ’bout to tear sh*t down /I’m ’bout to air sh*t out /Now what the f*ck they gon’ say now?” (“New Slaves”)
