2 Chainz On 2 Pac: “This Is One Of My Favorite Artists Of All Time” [Video]

Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz recently discussed his admiration toward Tupac Shakur and why he has no intention of getting compared to the late music mogul unless it is in relation to work ethic.

Although Chainz has rapped alongside rap greats like Kanye West and Lil Wayne, he said Pac ranks amongst his top picks.

“This is one of my favorite artists of all time,” Chainz told music entertainer Nardwuar when presented with a Tupac doll. “I never wanted to compare myself to being like Pac, I just want to compare my work ethic to how much he grinded out. [Would I ever consider getting a nose ring?] Nah, I never had any piercings my whole life. I just stick to the accessories.” (“Nardwuar”)

Last spring, rap veteran Nas called Pac one of hip-hop’s greatest after Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg put on a hologram Coachella performance in his honor.

“That’s what it’s all about. We love Tupac, the world loves Tupac, and he’s one of the greatest hip-hop artists who ever lived. He deserves that, to be celebrated like that and remembered like that.” (Billboard)

Not only loved by rap veterans and hip-hop artists, Roc Nation’s Willow Smith publicly inked an open letter to Pac over the weekend.

Willow Smith is wise beyond her years. The 11-year-old singer has shared a letter that she wrote to Tupac Shakur years ago. In the handwritten note, she asks the late hip-hop icon to come back because her mother Jada Pinkett-Smith misses him. Jada and Pac had a close relationship, which some believed was more than a friendship. “Dear Tupac, I know you are alive someplace. I think that my mommy really misses you. Can you please come back can you come back so momy and me can be happy! I wish you were here… I really do! Love, Willow [sic]” (Rap-Up)

Pac met his demise after getting fatally shot in 1996 following a Las Vegas boxing match.

While his celebrity was at its peak, he publicly fought with his rival, the Notorious B.I.G., and there were tensions brewing at Death Row. Even with such conflicts, however, 2Pac’s drive-by shooting in September 1996 came as an unexpected shock. On September 13, six days after the shooting, 2Pac passed away, leaving behind a legacy that was based as much on his lifestyle as it was his music. (All Music)
