Chainz said despite the initial struggles, a championship-esque reward ultimately awaited for him.

Based on a T.R.U. Story can be the soundtrack for maybe what LeBron [James] went through. Being in a situation, thinking you’re gonna be in a situation, striving in that situation, struggling in that situation, having faith like, ‘Let me try this again, but just do it a different way’ … and then getting good results. I feel like it’s a soundtrack for a championship team, a soundtrack for somebody that’s winning or goin’ through ups and downs.” (MTV)

Coincidentally, King James recently said he listens to Chainz’s music in the Miami Heat locker room.

“I go old school sometimes in the locker room, I go new school. Of course I’m gonna play Jay-Z, Kanye. I play Rick Ross, Lil Wayne,” James told MTV News while promoting the Sprite Uncontainable Game, in which he and Kobe Bryant will coach two teams of amateur players during 2013’s NBA All-Star Weekend. “I play some of the new artists like Wiz and Cash Out and Future and 2 Chainz.” There was one song in particular that helped motivate LeBron, Dwyane Wade and the other members of the Miami Heat’s squad to victory: “Also Big K.R.I.T. [‘I Got This’] was one of our theme songs this year,” James said of the single from K.R.I.T.’s debut album, Live From the Underground. (MTV)

LBJ got caught rapping to Chainz’s “Riot” anthem after the Heat won last month’s NBA Finals.

LeBron James is gonna be one exhausted (and hungover) NBA champion today … ’cause the guy partied his face off ’til 6 AM … and TMZ has the pics. James and the rest of the world champion Miami Heat hit up the LIV Miami nightclub at the Fontainebleau Hotel … where LeBron was drinking out of a 15-liter bottle of Ace of Spades champagne … which usually run around $75k. Sources at the club tell us … LeBron grabbed the mic … and rapped along with the music all night long … while a bunch of his teammates puffed away on cigars. At one point, ‘Bron rapped along with the song “Riot” by 2 Chainz while LMFAO rocked out on a nearby stage. (TMZ)

Earlier this year, the rapper announced his departure from Ludacris‘ Disturbin’ Tha Peace and revealed a new association to Def Jam.

“I’m excited about putting out new music. Fortunately for me I have so many features that’s not out yet. I have features that’s out and then my mixtape definitely has some more legroom on it,” Chainz said in an interview. “Some songs that still haven’t peaked. I don’t like putting out music to confuse the consumer or to cause problems to my own campaign. So I got some really dope records. I’m just waiting on the right time to release them. … Be looking out for a major release from 2 Chainz this year. Major distribution on Def Jam. And I’ll be working with another artist. I’ll be making a surprise announcement [about it] later on, [and I’ll reveal] who I’m gonna be partnering up with. You a smart motherf*cker so I’m not gonna give you all the information you need. But it’s going down.” (Complex)

Based on a T.R.U. Story is slated to drop Tuesday, August 14th.
