Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz is upping the ante with his upcoming Based On A T.R.U. Story 2: Me Time solo album by revealing plans to pack it with an actual cookbook.
While mostly slim on the album details itself, Chainz explained the motivation for adding a book of recipes to its release.
“I’m cool enough to be comfortable in my own skin and try to educate people — so with this cookbook I’m going to have probably about 14-15 meals, how many ever songs it is,” Chainz revealed in an interview. “It’s going to tell you whatever was used to make this as far as ingredients and cooking time and all that stuff. And probably the pros and cons of eating it. … I’m a seafood lover I don’t eat beef or pork period. So turkey, chicken that’s in a lot of the recipes I use. … A lot of people use DVDs bonus stuff like that. I just want to come probably with my own little array of swag aprons with the cookbook. That will probably get me on The View or something like that.” (“The MidNite Mixx”)
Recently, Chainz revealed the project is finished and would have around 14 to 15 tracks.
“No that’s pretty much done. I’m just finishing up the mixing. I’m adding a few samples, taking away a few samples. I’m still arranging the album too and also getting the credits right to make that side of the business is taken care of. [Who’s on the album?] I’m not telling you. … Actually, I will tell you I got Pharrell on there.” (Village Voice)
Chainz recently broke down the meaning behind his new album’s title.
“Me Time has multiple meanings. I feel like my music actually gives people a sense of going away sometimes — without really going on vacation,” Chainz told MTV News backstage on Saturday at his show-stopping performance at Hot 107.9’s Birthday Bash concert in Atlanta. “I feel like when people listen to me, they feel like they’re goin’ somewhere, taking time off; they’re relaxing, lettin’ their hair down,” the dreadlocked MC said reflectively. “Every time somebody wants to have some ‘me time’ or whatever, this is the type of vibe, this is the type of project [to listen to]. I’m putting together different sounds to make people be like, ‘This is about me. Me and my people, this is our time.'” (MTV)
Earlier this year, the ATL rapper downplayed the idea of needing to switch up his content on the upcoming release.
The six-foot-five giant with the strange look and the twisted humor (Money talk, you ain’t got none / End of discussion) is hip-hop’s most in-demand MC, thanks to his tawdry, spit-take-funny two-beat punch lines. “There’s nothing new under the sun,” Chainz says about the lyrics for his second album, out this summer. “Everyone’s sold dope, f*cked bitches, popped champagne, shot guns. I’ll take the extra minutes to do it a new way.” (GQ)
Based On A T.R.U. Story 2: Me Time is slated to for release on September 10.
